Spring 2010
Spring 2010 In our Spring Term we work towards a work-in-progress Tewkesbury School Gloucester School Swindon School Cheltenham School Groups show examples of class work and finished pieces, which allows parents to have a better idea of how classes are taught and what youngsters learn within their sessions. The Spring term gives youngsters time to focus on the following: * Characterisation * Technique * Choreography * Devising their own work * Working on different characters within the different pieces or disciplines and so to compare and contrast them * Discussion about the work and how they interact with it * The opportunity to work in smaller groups and so have a larger role within the work As the work is 'in progress' as well as pieces youngsters are experimenting with, you may also see: * Warm up routines * Games that work on specific techniques * Specific exercises used within the classes In every Spring term we have a set theme that all discplines work to, this allows all the work to be cohesive from subject to subject. The theme for the 2010 Spring term is Stagecraft. Although the term Stagecraft usually relates to the more technical aspects of the stage such as lighting, sound, scenery, costumes and props we will be tackling the creative and technical aspects of working on a 'stage'. Such as blocking, stage directions, effectively using the space, how to effectively use props and when to use them, vocal projection and energy. All those aspects of performing that help to create a polished performance!. You may see work on the following: * Games based around the areas of the stage * Pieces of work based around using the whole space * Games and exercises that work on projection and energy * Devised pieces around the use of the stage and props * Dances that use props As well as the work-in-progress presentation that parents watch on the last session of the term we also hand out yearly reports for each youngster so that parents have an idea how they are progressing in each discpline.
